Can open source guide a moon mission?

A few months ago at a DC Drupal Meetup, one of the guys that spoke was setting up an open-source space flight website. This isn't that, but it's nice to see there's not just one person with a good idea like that. With NASA more or less out of the picture for the future of manned space exploration, something needs to be done and it's up to the interested community (and civilian population) to do it. Ideas like this are a good start.
